RE: Factory Tours in Indiana?
Damon..took the factory tour there this past June. Very interesting.
Starts at 3pm after the factory workers are done for the day.
RE: RVing is cheaper than car & motel, cost calculation
Dog Trainer..you said it so much better than I did.
I think maybe the OP has an "engineering" mind, and started the post because in a few moments of free time, he was figuring out what vacation costs might be HYPOTHETICALLY.
Everyone is different. Everyones situation is different.
Sort of a "what if" thread..what if you got your motor home for x amt. of $, and gas was x amt. of $$$, and a hotel room was x amt. of $.
What if you got your MH for nothing? that would change the numbers drastically.
Way too many variables.
Good discussion thread, and everyones point of view made sense, depending on which way you looked at it.
The reason we started RVing, which was last year BTW, was because we wanted to see the United States in a way we could not do by air or car for that matter.
The people we have met have been by far more friendly and helpful than on any trip we have been on. Have not met one yet that wasn't pleasant, and we have taken 14 trips to dat in one year.
I think we can all agree that we love this way of travel, whether or not it is costing us less, the same or more than car travel.
RE: RVing is cheaper than car & motel, cost calculation
I think we should give the OP a break here.
What he is trying to say I think, is that if he has an RV ALREADY, and decided to take a trip, lets say 200 miles away, would he spend more on hotels, eating out, and paying for activities,or would he save by staying at a nice campground in his ALREADY owned RV, maybe BBQing at campsite, and enjoying the activities there that are free.
A generalization perhaps, as we know you can't compare any Campground to a Ritz Carlton.
Don't flame me..PLEASE
Although everyones point of view has merit, maybe its not the discussion the OP had intended.
Should we end the thread, and call it a night?
I love these boards and find the discussions entertaining at times, however.....sometimes enough is enough.
RE: Campground in Texas
Thanks everyone.
JNW57...thats the one we saw on the map.I40RV Park. Just looking for a quick overnite, so that might be it.
Texas..Looking to stay as close to I40 as possible this time, but will keep it mind for another time if passing that way. Sounds nice.
Elliott..Is there places to stay overnight in the rest area you mentioned, like on the Ohio Turnpike? There they have 3 different rest areas where you can actually hook up to 30 am electric for small fee. And its right on the interstate which is the best part. Even if no electric hook-up, the flying J dump may be a good solution, although have not used those yet.
Kennethwooster...our first choice was to stay in the Amarillo area, but we will be already doing 473 miles that day from Springfield, Mo. and the extra 100 miles, might push us over the top. And the other couple we are trying to hook up will be traveling alittle further than us.
Thanks all, I knew I would get some good ideas on this board.
Sue
Campground in Texas
Anyone stay at the campground in Shamrock texas on I 40?
We are going to the balloon fiesta in New Mexico in October, and plan to stay in that area overnight enroute.
Need dumping access before we dry camp.
Thanks, Sue
RE: Defrosting refigerator.
Thanks everyone...I can honestly say I didn't notice that little drip tray right under the fins. Even tho I wipe the whole ref out. Duh...
Looked after our last trip and there was no water in it.
Will have to check to see if there is a drain tube to outside.
Thanks for all the replies!

RE: Gray water back up
GaleHawkins..yes I was very glad it was the gray!! Otherwise I might have had a ****zer like bdpreece was talking about!
Bruce3404...you know now that you mention it, the guy next to us had just pulled in that day, and seemed to be having a problem with his sewer hose.
My husband was outside and when they were talking he said he had bought his rig 2 years ago, but NEVER used it until now. He said he was having all sorts of problems with things that didn't work that were now out of "house" warranty.
He might have had something to do with our problem, since when we dumped gray the day before we were fine.
7th Cav..we were up in Cooperstown, NY..We liked the campground except for the problem dumping.
Thanks everyone for the responses

RE: Weighing at Ohio Turnpike toll booths
DutchmenSport...If I remember correctly, the guy was not given a ticket at that time because he had no idea he was overwight according to Ohio Turnpike regulations. He had gone by his rigs specifications for weight allowances.
But was told, next time YOU WILL GET FINED. So since he was on his way to a FMCA RAlly in Minnesota at the time, he really couldn't do anything about it until he returned home. Therefore was looking for alternative ways to get home.
Good to know tho, right?
CoachmenKen..I wonder if he picked the Penns. Turnpike route instead!
RE: Weighing at Ohio Turnpike toll booths
I had no idea that this was happening.
I am glad that weights are checked. I am also glad to know I am in compliance, because I've been on those roads more than once.
I also try hard to stay well below any limits.
I have had my MH weighed fully loaded (for us) when we first got it.
Thanks for all the information.

Gray water back up
Although we have only been RVing for a year, we have never had this problem before, and have had 14 trips so far.
When we went to dump our tanks, the black water tank went fine, but after the gray was half emptied, it seemed to overflow from the ground pipe. We stopped dumping immediately, but there was a stream of water leading down to the street.
We disconnected our hose and waited for the gray water to go down the pipe.
Then opened the gray valve just slightly to dump just a little at a time. This happened 2 more times.
The thing is that the campground receptacle was not straight into the ground, but at a 90 degree angle out of the ground for a hook up.
We had never seen that before either.
We felt bad this happened, and stopped at the office when we left to tell them what happened. The guy said "well, you know how leeching fields can be". They didn't seem concerned at all. I knew that area had alot of rain recently, and we had terrential rain 2 nights before.
We had big ruts in the mud when we pulled in, and of course they were still there when we left.
Anyone ever have this problem?
Oh, I have to say we dumped the gray the day before because we were full, without any problem.
Weighing at Ohio Turnpike toll booths
I was not aware that when you go thru a toll booth on the Ohio Turnpike, that your rig is automatically weighed.
In St. Paul Minn. we met a couple that was looking for a different way home, to avoid the toll booths on the Ohio Turnpike.
They were stopped at the toll booth, and were told that one of their axles was overweight, according to the turnpike weight restrictions..
The guy was annoyed because he was in not even close to maximum weight listed for his vehicles axles.
Has anyone ever heard of this?
Defrosting refigerator.
Well, I have my MH one year, and have just made my 14th trip.
Most are short trips being 4 days, some alittle longer.
When I get home, after I remove all the food, I turn off the refigerator.
NOw the fins in the back look alittle frosty, but I never seem to get a build up of ice. NOt complaining. But is there something else I should be doing at this point besides wiping down the inside with baking soda/water solution, drying it, and leaving doors open? Same for freezer.
I have a Norcold , probably about 8 cf?
Is there a tray under it I have to empty or something?
Thanks,
Sue
RE: MCD American Duo day night shades
We saw them at the Good Sam Convention in Perry Georgia and loved them, but didn't order then. We saw them again at the FMCA St. Paul Convention and decided to get them. They were just delivered yesterday, so we have not installed them yet.
I know I will love them when they're in.

RE: oil leak
Thanks everyone for your input.
The oil filter was the problem. Frightliner said it was "faulty".
Had our oil changed last March, so maybe the guys didn't put it on right?
Anyway, end of story.
Sue
RE: oil leak
Anything we can see looks ok. We have an appt. with freightliner this thursday, so hopefully we will find out then. Hope its not a big problem as we are heading up to Cooperstown Monday.
Thanks for all the responses and input.
I will let you know the outcome.
Sully..the coach is a 2007 Damon Astoria Pacifica with a Cummins 300 HP ISB engine.
RE: Interior Renovation Complete!
What a great job! Interested to hear what you used to paint the dash.
Was it hard to reuphulster the dinette?
Guess you're working on the outside now.
Make sure you post pictures of that too!

oil leak
Was away for 8 days with motorhome, ran fine, 2500 miles.
Came home, parked it,left it for 7 days. Moved it and found fresh oil leak approx. 12 inches around, with trail of drips to where I moved it to.
Put pan under where I thought it might be leaking from (oil plug). Left it for 3 days nothing.
Started it up and oil appeared to have spattered not on pan but by it. I moved it forward and backed it up while my husband tried to see where it was coming from. At that time it didn't appear to leak.
I seemed that when he stepped on the gas hard is when it happened.
Anyway, I have an appt. for freightliner next week, so I guess we'll know then.
Just seems odd that after a 2500 mile trip, without difficulty it appears after sitting in my driveway for a week.
Anyone ever have any problem like that?
Thanks,
Sue
